How can you repair equipment to OEM standards without access to OEM parts?

The OEM’s say that independent service organization (ISO) can’t consistently repair their product since the OEM’s don’t sell their parts. How can you repair their product to OEM standards if you do not have access to the original parts?

The OEM’s have literally hundreds of suppliers just like manufacturers of cars, computers or other medical devices. It is true that the OEM’s have specified the material and dimensions of each part to their respective suppliers, but it is a process that can be undertaken by any company committed to analyzing the material and dimensions of each part.

At Life Systems, the part development process involves the use of 3D scanning equipment using laser and optical technologies to measure parts to within 1/1,000,000th of an inch. Additionally, materials are spectrum analyzed to insure that the exact material is used to produce the part. Part quality - and ultimately patient safety - is not a responsibility that we are willing to hand off to someone else. We control the engineering and manufacturing of parts and guarantee the quality. For more information on our parts quality assurance program, please see the Manufacturing area of our website.

How do I know are patients are safe if we use a third party?

The OEM’s claim that ISO’s are not regulated by the FDA and that poses a safety risk. How do I know are patients are safe if we use a third party? As the original manufacturer of the device, the OEM’s are in fact regulated by the FDA for the manufacture of the device. However, the FDA does not specifically regulate the endoscopic equipment repair industry. It is not under the control of any ISO or OEM as to the FDA’s position on regulating this industry and further, if this were to change, the FDA would most likely regulate all repair facilities be they ISO or OEM.

The OEM’s claim that your prices appear lower but that the customer will experience more frequent repairs as a result of utilizing an ISO. How do I know your lower prices will really save me money over the long haul?

This long standing sales claim is not supported by a single clinically peer-reviewed study. In fact, most reputable ISO’s will guarantee the same or lower frequency of repair through any number of capitated annual contracts or time and materials contracts. Additionally, up to 75% of all repairs on this equipment are due to mishandling or accidental damage which is not related to who is doing the repairs. At Life Systems, we provide our customers with live data as to their frequency of repair by product type and continually strive to reduce repair frequencies through the industry’s only Endoscopic Equipment PM. For more information on the Endoscopic PM and the Endoscopic PM Toolkit™, please see the Manufacturing area of our website.

How Can I Capitalize on Equipment Coming Off of a Lease?

With most leases, you have the option to buy the equipment at the end of the lease. If you are planning to acquire new equipment, it is usually in your best interest to buy out the lease and sell the equipment to Life Systems. You can generate instant cash flow which can then be applied to your purchase.

Real World Example: A hospital leased $200,000 worth of Olympus® 160 series GI equipment.
After the 36 month lease had expired, the customer planned to purchase new equipment from the OEM.
The buyout on their lease was 10% of the purchase price or $20,000. The equipment had a fair market value of $50,000.
The hospital agrees to the buyout at lease end, sold the equipment to Life Systems and generated $30,000 in cash flow instantly! (Based on an actual customer experience.)
